DESCRIPTION

Deforestation is a major threat to Madagascar's biodiversity, as 90% of Madagascar's endemic species live or heavily rely on the forest. However, because of deforestation, over 8000 species are either classified as vulnerable or endangered. When you purchase a Madagascar bracelet, you plant 3 trees in coastal Mahabana and Ankarafantsika National Park in Madagascar, while raising awareness about deforestation in Madagascar and its effect on both wildlife and our lives.

FEATURES

  • Every bracelet purchased funds 3 planted trees in Madagascar and finances awareness content on social media.
  • Handmade in Slovenia (EU) by members of the disabled community.
  • All of the bracelet’s components are made locally.
  • Carbon-neutral production.
  • Nickel-free metal pendant.
  • Easy to wear.
  • Unisex, waterproof design.
  • One size fits all: women, men or children.
  • 100% adjustable - wrist size: 13-23 cm in circumference.
  • Comes on a card made from recycled paper.
  • Includes a tree planting certificate.

PLANT & PREVENT

Keeping trees alive is as important as planting new ones. This is why we finance awareness videos on social media, to show people what we can do to minimise the impact of deforestation in our everyday lives. Along with financing tree planting projects, we also finance the protection of our newly planted trees.

FOREST FACT

4 out of 10 trees present in 1950 have now gone and deforestation in Madagascar is increasing.

15 SPECIES OF LEMUR HAVE ALREADY GONE EXTINCT

Deforestation in Madagascar

“It has been noticed that Madagascar has lost 80 or 90% of its ‘original’ or ‘pre-human’ forest cover. The primary cause of this island clearance for agriculture.”

Lemurs are almost completely gone

The most aggressive technique to clear the land in Madagascar is called “slash-and-burn”. As the name suggests, first the trees are cut, and then burned. After that, the land is mostly used for rice plantations.

After the same patch of land has been cultivated two or three times using this method, the soil becomes so depleted that it is unproductive. It is then abandoned and left in a deforested state.

Forests in Madagascar play a very important role in global climate change and also in the world’s biodiversity. We can protect it only if we work together. You can join our planting and preservation efforts in Madagascar by purchasing the Madagascar Bracelet.

HAND-ASSEMBLED IN SLOVENIA, CREATING JOBS FOR THE LOCALS ALL OVER THE WORLD

Purchasing a Treecelet bracelet does more than just plant trees. Our bracelets are hand-made in Slovenia by mothers that take care of their children at home. This way, they can work from home and raise our most precious gold – children. Are children not one of the main reasons to preserve nature?

The bracelets also provide sustainable and living-wage jobs to local people where the trees are planted. By financing tree planting projects, nature preservation becomes their mission.
